OzComic Con

Two months ago I attended the OzComic Con in Melbourne. The place was jam-packed on that day. Here were some of the highlights.

Spy vs Spy

As you can see, I got to try and dabble with the Wacom Cintiq at the Wacom booth. It was my first time using a Cintiq. A bit confusing to use at first but I got the hang of it in the end. It was quite an experience. Though I have to say I still prefer using a pen/pencil to get to the nitty gritty of details. I'm sure those in favor of the Cintiq would argue that you can pretty much do the same kind of refinement with a pen/pencil but I would argue that it sacrifices speed and tactileness. Yes, I know there are alot of shortcuts in Photoshop but on that day I was using Adobe CS6 and didn't know my way around the program. Anyways, here's a closeup of my best sketch using a Cintiq:

To give you an idea of how big this Cintiq was here are a couple of shots. I believe I was working on a 22" inch screen:

As you can see the workspace is massive. And no, in case you're wondering that's not me in the screenshot but some random guy trying it out.

Overall, my experience at the OzComicCon was eventful. Almost didn't get in but thankfully I manage to get an extra ticket from a passerbyer who happened to witness my predicament of not being able to get in in an already booked out venue. Anyways, after the Con had dinner with friends who also attended the Con and then walked back to the train station to head back home.

Along the way to the train station I saw this guy dressed up in a dog suit playing an acoustic version of the Guns 'n Roses song Knockin' on Heaven's Door in the drizzling rain.
